Russian deputy FM: Russia and ASEAN moving toward strategic partnership

Russia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) are moving toward a strategic partnership, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov told Russian Business Guide in an interview published on the website of TPP Inform new agency on Thursday.

“Russia-ASEAN dialogue partnership turns 20 years this year, and it continues to develop. Over the last two decades, stable operation of main bodies of cooperation was established with Russian Foreign Ministry’s coordinating role,” Morgulov said. “The specter of directions of sectoral cooperation is broadening. The recent example is launching Russia-ASEAN dialogue on renewable energy, creating mechanisms of cooperation in the spheres of agriculture and education,” he added.

“We are now at the threshold of a new stage of relations with the Association, which I would describe as moving toward a strategic partnership,” he noted.

Thailand supports raising the level of cooperation between Russia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to strategic partnership, Thailand’s Prime minister Prayut Chan-o-cha told TASS on Thursday ahead of Russia-ASEAN summit on May 19-20 in Sochi.

“I have no doubt that the jubilee Russia-ASEAN summit will facilitate multilateral cooperation between ASEAN and Russia and will lay a path toward strategic partnership between the two sides,” Prayut said.

He thinks that Russia “plays a big role by contributing to peace and prosperity in Southeast Asia and Asia Pacific.” “We hope that Russia will continue supporting ASEAN’s regional architecture, especially through its involvement in such formats as East Asia Summit, ASEAN Regional Forum, council of defense ministers,” he added.

Russia has been ASEAN’s dialogue partner since July 1996. China promises to speed up work on financing for Yamal LNG project — Russian official

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has pledged to speed up the process of financing for Yamal LNG project, Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich told reporters on the sidelines of the Boao Forum for Asia.

“We discussed several issues with the premier of the State Council, including the implementation of the Yamal LNG project and supplies of Russian agricultural products to the Chinese market. The Premier’s response was positive and he said that he would give instructions to speed up the work,” – Dvorkovich said after the meeting with Li Keqiang.

Yamal LNG is a large scale project on creating a liquefied natural gas production facility. Yamal LNG unlocks access to the vast gas resources of the Russian Arctic, while also opening a new LNG sea transport route to Asia using ice-class LNG carriers.

Russian largest independent gas producer Novatek holds 50.1% in the project. China’s CNPC holds 29.9%, while French Total owns 20%. The Silk Route foundation owns 9.9%

The volume of capital expenditures for Yamal LNG project will amount $27 bln, Head of Novatek Leonid Mikhelson said in February.

Rosneft’s subsidiary starts Vietnam operations

Rosneft Vietnam BV, a subsidiary of the Russian state-owned oil company, has started drilling an exploration well off the southern coast of Vietnam, TASS reported on March 9.

This is Rosneft’s first individual international offshore drilling project as an operator.

“The design depth of the well will be around 1,380 m, while the sea depth in the area is about 162 m.” Rosneft said, according to the report. “The expected recoverable reserves of natural gas in the geological structure are estimated at 12.6 bcm, and 0.6 mt of gas condensate.”
